Finlarig Castle

Welcome to a Scottish Special with West London Paranormal and our close friend and Top Investigator Miki York.

You join us at Finlarig Castle an early 17th-century castle standing on a mound on a peninsula between the River Lochay and Loch Tay, just over 1⁄2 mile north of Killin in Stirling, Scotland.

Built in 1629 by 'Black' Duncan Campbell (Donnchadh Dubh) of Glenorchy, the castle is an L-plan tower-house, formerly protected by an outer enclosure or barmekin, which is now in a dangerously ruinous condition. It was one of many strongholds built in Argyll and Perthshire by the Campbells of Breadalbane.

The most notorious story associated with this castle is the stone lined rectangular pit located on the north side of the castle. It’s said that this was a beheading pit-where noblemen would kneel down and promptly have their heads chopped off by the executioners axe.

There is another dark story that is associated with Finlarig.

There is a tree on the north side of the castle called the Hanging Tree, where convicted commoners were also executed.

With links to the ancient King of Scotland, James the VI, the castle had at one time been a temporary seat of the Scottish Government.  It was well known that King James would often partake in a meal on the 1st floor overlooking the notorious killing grounds and during said meal time would witness hangings directly opposite the dining room window at the 'Hanging Tree'.

It is also said that Rob Roy MacGregor visited the castle in 1713 and used the castle as a hideout from all of his unruly exploits that led to his everlasting legendary status.

Join us as we spend the night camping amongst the Graves and Mausoleum of Finlarig Castle, where we conduct investigative experiments throughout the night.
